New Salem was once a cornerstone of the local community. It has been the primary meeting place for annual and historical family gatherings for over half a century. Since its inception, New Salem has been the home of multiple religious denominations and various ethnic groups. Despite its impact and enhancement in the community, chronic flooding has begun to destroy this historical site. It is in grave danger of becoming a dying relic.
